Unique Wedding Locations and Venue Ideas

As not everyone will marry in a church, some couples are looking for alternative wedding locations for the ceremony. For those looking for a different type of venue, here are some other wonderful places to have a wedding.

Outdoor Wedding Locations

Consider getting married in a public park. Pick the most scenic and well-maintained park in the city and then call the local municipal government office to get permission and learn the restrictions (usually there are just limits on the number of people who can attend). Try and select a location with a large fountain and lots of mature trees and away from any playgrounds. The reception would have to be held somewhere else.

A great wedding location is a private English-style garden. Try the local botanical garden to see if they host weddings. Guests could be seated on elegant cast-iron chairs, surrounded by overflowing flower gardens and floating candles in any small ponds.

Golf courses, yacht or boat clubs, local college and university campuses (typically not as busy in the summer months), ranches and wineries (followed by a wine tasting reception) all offer beautiful settings for an outdoor wedding.

Consider getting married on a mountaintop at dusk. The best ones would be a ski hill in the summer months, when it is not being used for much else. Also, a ski hill would offer transportation up the hill, where the bride, groom and guests could ride up in a gondola. A cliff overlooking the water is also dramatic.

Ceremonies near water are always romantic. Whether is it a candle lit poolside at night, abroad a local river boat or small yacht, or on a small island in the middle of a nearby lake where guests can be brought over by party boat, there are many possibilities for a wedding location.

Indoor Wedding Locations

Many old stone schoolhouses still exist and might be available for weddings. They usually have an aisle to walk down, benches for seating and a bell to ring.

Consider any grand public buildings in town that may possibly allow weddings, such as museums, a famous estate, or a castle. Most cities usually have one as a tourist attraction. All of these locales would provide an incredible backdrop for photographs.

Look into renting a small local theater or play house as a wedding location. The bride and groom could marry on stage with guests in the audience.
